Metal Weaving
Gail Thayer

In this workshop you will learn to weave strips of metal to create a ‘sheet’ that can be used in a jewelry project.
On Day 1 we will do woven pieces in two different patterns: Plain Weave & 2 by 2 Twill Weave – each will be about 3 inches square.
On Day 2 we will explore ways that you may use your woven sheets.
There is a $70 charge for the class kit that includes:
Cutting mat with grid
Denting tools
Thin wooden knitting needle
Precut sterling silver and copper strips sufficient to complete both weaves
See attachment below for workshop details and additional tool list.

Instructor Bio
I have always made things. I learned to sew at an early age and had the best dressed Barbie doll in Pennsylvania. Over the years I did all kinds of sewing and crafts. I do not have an art background but design and workmanship were always important to me. I especially like glass and was a glass bead maker for 20 years before taking up metals. In 2011 I started silversmithing classes at the Dunedin Fine Art Center and I’ve been taking classes all over since then. I took Jeanie Pratt’s metal weaving class at Winter Workshop in New Smyrna Beach. Though I was never a weaver, the merging of metal and fabric arts really called to me and I was hooked. For about a year I did metal weaving almost exclusively and this class grew out of that experience. I continue to take classes and experiment with new techniques.
