Add the beauty of gold to your Sterling silver jewelry! Students will be introduced to the Korean art of Keum-boo - an ancient gilding technique used to apply thin sheets of precious metal - silver and gold - to silver and other metals. Aura 22, a 22 karat yellow gold “paint,” will also be demonstrated. Students will create and use their own Keum-boo foil using fine silver.
Traditional and unconventional methods of Keum-boo application and the advantages/disadvantages of each will be discussed to help the student find the application technique that serves them best. Learn how to achieve a dark patina on silver to make the gold pop!
Students will create a ring and a pair of earrings or pendant of Sterling silver embellished with 24 karat and fine silver gold using the Keum-boo technique. Add the richness of gold to your jewelry designs with minimal expense!
NOTE: This method of Keum-boo gold and silver application uses a torch.....opening endless possibilities to Keum-boo application not possible using the more common hot plate. Students must be proficient with a torch.
